Summarizing Strategies

Hi Students,

  • Find an international student (or two or three).

  • Record their answers "word for word." That is, write down what they say exactly as they said it.

    • How has the way you communicate changed?

Evaluating Internet Sources

1. Preview
In this activity, you will evaluate four Internet sources for the topic below. Click on each link below to view the sources.  For each source, use the evaluation criteria we discussed in class today to decide if it is an appropriate source for the topic (see p. 304-306 for review). Write a short explanation detailing why you think a source is appropriate or inappropriate for the topic. If you are not sure, explain why it might or might not be appropriate. This is collected HW. Please write your explanations on a separate sheet of paper. You can number (1, 2, 3, 4) each explanation based on the source numbers below (Source 1, Source 2, etc.). Complete a Google search for your topic. Find 2-3 articles or relevant web pages about your topic. Print these articles/web pages and bring them to class on Tuesday.

**When you do your Google search, try using different key words. For example, if my topic is "wolf hunting in Montana," I would start with just that. I might also try "Montana wolf hunting," or "montana wolf hunting controversy."
**Make sure that the information you select is RELEVANT (related and important) to your topic.
