Mid-term Review

Hi!

Here is the information you need to prepare for the mid-term. 

1. When: Monday, March 12th 
2. What: 

a. Writing 

Write a 5 paragraph essay in 30 minutes. Make sure you essay has the following: 
  • introduction (can be funnel or interesting story) with thesis;
  • strong topic sentences; 
  • lots of relevant supporting ideas and details; 
  • concluding paragraph that restates thesis and/or summarizes main points and a concluding comment (prediction or suggestion)
  • coherence (transitions, connecting words, clear pronoun reference)
  • unity (all ideas relate to topic sentences/thesis

b. Grammar
  • Independent dependent clauses
  • Simple, compound, complex, complex-compound sentences
  • FANBOYS
  • Transitions
  • Sentence Variety
  • Punctuation
  • Parallelism
  • Sentence Problems (fragments, run-ons, etc.)
  • Noun Clauses
  • Contrast grammar (Oshima, p. 119-120)
