Week 8 Question

I've enjoyed reading your entries for week 7. It doesn't at all surprise me that some you are less than crazy about American food. I myself have had trouble finding palatable food here in the U.S. since returning from Korea back in August.

On to this week's question......The fact that you've got mid-terms next week is something I'm sure you're all aware of. Good luck to all of you. This week's question pertains to what you do when you've got a stressful week of studying ahead (like mid-terms). To be exact, what specific studying strategies do you employ when you have a big test or even multiple tests coming up? What do you do to stay focused, motivated, and consistently engaged in your studies?

  1. My strategies for big tests coming up are listing out all my homework and chores which have to be done before my “big day/days” and getting them done as soon as possible then I will focus on studying the subjects in an order whichever I will take the test last. For example, if I have reading test on Thursday and grammars on Wednesday, I would get my homework and chores done ASAP and review some notes from reading class then study for grammars when Wednesday is getting closer. In that way, after the grammars test, I would not get too stressful because of shortage of time. That works for me very well.

  2. As you know that next week is a week of midterm examonation. Therefore, I have to prepare for my test. The specific studying strategies which I usually use when I have a big test is to take a short note which I can take it to everywhere with me. I am a person who do not like to sit and read a book on the table because every time I do like that i will feel very sleepy. As a result, I decide to take a short note which I can read every time and every where that I want. Moreover, taking a short note is good for my ways because when I make short note, I have to read and write something on paper. This means I have chance to memorize or read it 2 times when i make a short note.

  3. I usually review again and again and again for test. In my case, my memory is too bad, so i have to review anything. Actually, before came here, I've never stuied. Therefore, I don't know any specific studying strategies. Just review and review. In fact, English is so difficult to me, and I wanted to stop, but whenever I want to give up study, I think my parents. Anyway, my studying strategy is review!!!

  4. When I have a big test, usually I'm writing and writing then I memorize that. And I'll look and read chapter over and over. However, I'm always thinking confident ways because only I'm believed myself more than any other. Also, If I have many test at the same time, I'll focus on only I'm interested one.

  5. My strategies of studying before exam are cleaning my desk and listing up the all of things what I have to do. Usually, my desk is a kind of messy. Because of this, I always clean up my desk for concentrating on my study before starting the study. After this,I always make the list. In this list, I write about what I have to finish on the day and if I can finish the task,I'll check it. I can see how my study is going on clerly on this list.

  6. When a big test or multiple tests are coming up, as Boem and Reina said, I review everything and rewrite the words or read again and again. Next, I find out what words are difficult to understand or memorize for me or which fields are hard to make sure. Then I study them intensively. I have some strategies to focus on my studies as well. When I get to sleepy, I grab coffee or green tea. Eating chocolates and candies makes my brain work more. Taking short break is also good way to concentrate on my studies.

  7. I study the part that I didn't understand the most or remember at first when I have big test because I think I don't need to study the topics deeply that I've already understood again,so I just see my notes.on the other hand, I write many times if I cannot memorize especially vocabulary. When I'm tired, I take a short break and walk around.I think Eating something is also good for my brain as Hiromi said.

  8. I read my notes and textbooks carefully. after that, I try to take notes again and add more information about test that i missed. and then I try to memorize some rule or important information. before I sleep, I memorize or organize everything about test, and I rewrite a note once again in the moning.

  9. my studying strategy is reviewing. For example, I often read textbooks or my notes and do exercises again and again untill I understand. It takes long time to study for test, so I start to prepar the test before one week on the test. Also, I get enough sleep because if you did not get enough sleep, the brain does not work during the test.

  10. Hmmmmm. Good question Josh. Every body has his/her own strategy how to get ready for BIG tests. and so do I. when the date of test are announced, since next day I start to getting ready. Almost all of method which is mentioned above i have too. especially JK's methods are good. when you review in the morning everything you studied last night. I divide my tasks into several parts to avoid getting confuse. I start form crucial part of them, I try to do first those which is really important and may appear on test list. such as grammar. i usually read before going to bed, because whatever you read before you go to sleep would stay in your memory for long time, and besides your see them on your dream. As you see I'm getting ready when I awake and while I'm dreaming. LoL. Anyways it's no matter what kind of strategy students have, but important is that they have it. Good Luck guys. Thank you Josh for excellent question.

  11. I like to study before I do my homework but most the time I do my homework the day before the mid-terms so I could concentrate on my studying. I prefer studying by writing what I want to keep in my mind because it makes it easy to remember for me and when I start the test my hand goes by itself because it's used to write the answers.

  12. If i got the stress from study, I would eat, exercise and many things. In fact, I have many things to relax myself. Sometimes it is too much.
My strategy studying is prepare one or two week before the test. It depends on the test that how important or difficult it is.

  13. Sorry for the late. Well, when I have something importanat like tests, I focus on it and don't do anything else. I like to get good result for somthing that I care about like tests. Because most students have stressful when they have tests, they try to not think about it the day before. I like to do it firstly then if I have something else that is less important, I postpond it for the next day.

  14. Sorry for the late. Actually that don`t stressful me at all and it`s not big deal for me. It`s like any quiz, because i usually study day by day so when i have quiz or test i don`t have to study all night i just need to review.
