Week 9 Question

This week's question is perhaps a no-brainer (you were probably expecting it).

Last night most of you were present for the play "Brighton Beach Memoirs." To be sure, there were some moments during the play when I was a little embarrassed due to "questionable" content. Conversely, there were times when I thought the play evoked the honest sentiment of a close-knit family trying to struggle through the Great Depression. My opinions aside, let's focus on your impressions of the play.

First, what was your overall impression of "Brighton Beach Memoirs"?

As a follow-up: Did you find any of the play's content inappropriate, offensive, or otherwise unnecessary? Why or why not?

For those who didn't attend: What movie have you seen recently that you felt "crossed the line" in terms of appropriate/inappropriate content?

  1. I enjoyed very much about the play we went last night. Overall, the plot is well connected. The family’s problems which intertwined in their relationship are well depicted. I like the part when all the family members bring up their resentments to each other very much. Besides, all the contents are appropriate to me although I did see some audience left after Act 1. It shows some topics that we are embarrassed / avoid to talk / talking about in our real life. It is perfect to show them on stage because the audience can keep them as it were in their real life when the play ends but give them something to think about. The only thing that it could have been more is the younger sister’s Lori/Laura’s point of view. In my opinion, her illness has affected all other family members’ life and are well described in the plot. However, what and how does she think about it are not mentioned. I would love to see more about it or maybe that’s another story.

  4. First, I'm sorry Josh. Actually, I don't remember exactly about the play so, I don't know how I type this question. I just remember that the main character is fun, and they expressed their life well. To be honest, I couldn't understand exactly, but I was trying to understand the play. If I have other opportunity, I want to see again. Anyway, Week 9 Question is difficult to me.

  6. Actually, I have never watched a play like this before. Therfore, this is the first time for me to watch I. To be honest, at first i thought that i must be boring but it didn't be like i'm thought. In fact the live shows as I had seen on last thursday can make me feel really impressive because I can see a real ability of the actor. Moreover, the story in this show is fun and can teach me in many thing such as no one will love me as much as my parent do. In addition, this show make me know more about American culture, which they showed one family.
